Ms. Kirtina Jones is proud to join the Navigator Family as our Assistant Principal.  Her twin sister is our esteemed former Assistant Principal and CHCCS 2020 Assistant Principal of the Year, Ms. Kirtisha Jones.

Ms. Jones, originally from Bladenboro, North Carolina, attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU) as a member of the first cohort of Ron Edmonds Teaching Scholarship recipients.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004, and began her education journey with Durham Public Schools as a teacher at R. N. Harris Integrated Arts and Core Knowledge Magnet School.

Ms. Jones taught First Grade for five years, then looped to Second Grade, and proudly served her students and families for ten years. During her time as a classroom teacher, Ms. Jones received many accolades and acknowledgements, including being one of OfficeMax “A Day Made Better” national award recipients, serving two terms as RN Harris Teacher of the Year (2008-2009 and 2017-2018), being named Durham Public Schools 2018 District Teacher of the year, and recognized as WRAL Teacher of the Week!

After 15 years in the classroom, Ms. Jones transitioned to a building level leadership position, serving as MTSS Coordinator and School Resource at RN Harris Elementary. Ms. Jones remained dedicated to serving students, families, and colleagues in this role for the past 3 years. For the 2021-2022 school year, along with her role as MTSS Coordinator, Ms. Jones voluntarily stepped in to serve as a Fifth Grade Teacher, due to an unforeseen classroom teacher shortage.

During this time, Ms. Jones returned to NCCU to receive her Masters in Instructional Technology in 2011, and she is currently on course to receive her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2023.

Ms. Kirtina Jones believes in servant leadership and is eager to Soar to Higher Heights with Navigator Nation!

“I leave you love. I leave you hope. I leave you the challenge of developing confidence in one another. I leave you a thirst for education. I leave you a respect for the use of power. I leave you faith. I leave you racial dignity. I leave you a desire to live harmoniously with your fellow men. I leave you finally, a responsibility to our young people.”
